Garden 28 in Santa Monica

Harmony, simplicity, and an appreciation for the web of life characterize this all-native coastal garden. The 400 sq. ft. front yard, revamped in 2011, features natives that thrive in dry shade and a rocky swale that captures roof runoff. The 2,800 sq. ft. back yard, redesigned in 2013, focuses on supporting pollinators, celebrating seasonal change, and harvesting more rainwater. Noteworthy plants include California evening primrose, white everlasting, rare Wright’s buckwheat, and endangered Hearst’s ceanothus. Homeowner designed with assistance from Johnathan Perisho.
