Garden 5 in Santa Monica

Design: FormLA Landscaping
Total Garden Size: 500 square feet front yard
Year Started: 2016
Notable Features: A petite, all-native, naturalistic coastal garden surrounds a historic shotgun house built in the 1890s, which is now Santa Monica Conservancy’s Preservation Resource Center. Planted in the space of a former parking lot, the site faces the challenges of a commercial environment. Coastal natives including San Miguel Island buckwheat, Island Snapdragon, California fuschia, yarrow, and coyote mint pair with a miniature bioswale to clean runoff on its last mile to the ocean.
