Exploring the South Bay:
An insider garden tour
Saturday, May 20, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Adventure through California native landscapes in the South Bay. This special fundraising event invites you to explore the volunteer-driven native plant movement manifested by three outstanding public gardens. The fourth and final stop is a private residential garden in Manhattan Beach that has been a perennial favorite on our annual Native Plant Garden Tour. Join TPF Board members and Executive Director Kitty Connolly in witnessing the return on investment in community-driven efforts.
The program includes: sweet and savory brunchables with native plant ingredients and lemonadeberry mimosas; a gourmet and gluten-free lunch; afternoon cocktails (Manhattans in Manhattan Beach!); and compelling speakers. Transportation optional.
Rediscover the power and beauty of California native plants.
- Dr. Connie Vadheim, Adjunct Professor, California State University, Dominquez Hills, and Head Gardener, Mother Nature’s Backyard, will speak about the history and role of Mother Nature’s Backyard within the community and share inspiring tips on the edible and medicinal qualities of local native plants.
- Andrew Chaves, Director of Operations and Volunteer Engagement, will talk about the power and reach of Theodore Payne’s volunteer corps as well as lead us on a short nature walk.
- Gretchen Renshaw, Founder and Member of the Board of Directors, Manhattan Beach Botanical Garden, will share the origin story of the MBBGG and the role of volunteers in its ongoing success.
Tickets are $190 each. Additional donations will benefit the Foundation’s Volunteer Program.
Tour meets in Gardena at 9:00 AM. Space is limited.
