Design: Homeowner with assistance from the late Rogers Weld
Maintenance: Carlos Roques and Emerson Funes
Garden Size: One-acre front and back
Started: 1990
Notable Features: Celebrated in the book The Gottlieb Native Garden: A California Love Story. Diverse natives installed more than 25 years ago and more recent additions all thrive around this mid-1960s home. In front, grey and silver foliage dominate the design. In the back, a staircase leads down a terraced hillside planted with slope-stabilizing flora. Other highlights: running streams and fountains for birds, a fine succulent collection, and a cat run and catio that give felines time outside while keeping the birds (and cats) safe. Certified as a Pollinator Habitat by the Xerces Society
