Design: Homeowner
Maintenance: Saturate
Garden Size: 1,200 square feet front yard
Started: 2015
Notable Features: In this cottage-style front yard, natives are blended with drought-tolerant exotics. Just off the street, Bee’s Bliss sage borders a white picket fence, with non-native Cécile Brünner roses peeking out above. Once inside the garden, curving walkways lead to a common yarrow micro-meadow and small carpet of wood strawberry, with mature shrubs of red fairy duster and black sage. New additions include Engelmann oak, Concha ceanothus, and Santa Cruz Island ironwood. Watch for wild flowers sown from Theodore Payne’s Coastal Mix.
