Design: Andreas Hessing, Scrub Jay Studios
Maintenance: Scrub Jay Studios
Garden Size: 7,500 square feet front yard
Started: 2004
Notable Features: Described by the owners as a semi-formal collector’s garden, this mature 100% native landscape includes a gabion wall, winding paths, and a rammed-earth bench nestled below a century-old coast live oak with a skirt of evergreen currant. Wild flowers, a dudleya-studded cliff, espaliered flannelbush, and many rare plants from our state and Baja California surround the owners’ art installation, “The History of the West.” In the far back: the owner/landscape designer’s plant propagation zone.
